Getting Your Back Fixed

Few things are more frustrating than dealing with a bad back. Unfortunately, I found myself in that situation a few months back after I sprained my back lifting my baby. It was absolutely debilitating, but I knew that I was going to have to live with it. I kept trying to clean my house, look after my kids, and handle my daily chores, but the pain just kept getting worse. Fortunately, a friend of mine recommended a great chiropractor that could help. He adjusted my back and things started to get better. This blog is all about the benefits of working with a professional.

Chiroparactic Treatment For Back Pain Relief

Blog

Back pain is no laughing matter and often prevents people from performing strenuous activities or even simply going about their daily activities. Back pain is a serious health issue that affects 80 percent of people at some point in their lives, according to the National Institutes of Health. Fortunately, you have some good options for getting back pain relief, one of which is chiropractic treatment. This article takes a look at some important aspects of this health topic.

Manipulation

The most common technique used by chiropractors to ease back pain is manual manipulation, also called spinal manipulation. This method involves the chiropractor manipulating the spine with their hands. The practitioner makes a thrusting movement with their hands to a specific point on the spine. The goal is to reduce the pressure on your joints, improve the function of the nerves in the area, and relieve muscle tightness. Spinal manipulation is one of the recommended treatments for back pain.

Spinal manipulation and other chiropractic treatments are typically done on a padded table that adjusts up or down. The treatments are not painful and the main side effects are a little soreness in the affected area and some tiredness. These side effects are typically short-lived, however, and usually go away within 24 hours.

Mobilization

Another technique used by chiropractic professionals for back pain relief is spinal mobilization. This method is related to spinal manipulation but uses less forceful movements to treat the spine. Spinal mobilization may involve the use of a hand-held tool or dropping a section of the adjustable table as the practitioner presses on the spine.

Spinal mobilization is often used when spinal manipulation is contraindicated, such as when a patient has osteoporosis, a deformity, or some types of arthritis. It may also be used when someone suffers from obesity or has particularly sensitive nerves. Chiropractors might recommend spinal mobilization when a patient's back pain is severe.

Study

A recent study provides support for using chiropractic methods to treat back pain. A study of 750 patients who suffered from lower back pain concluded that those patients who received chiropractic care had a better outcome than those who did not. The patients who had chiropractic treatment had pain that was less intense, had improved function, and needed fewer pain relievers than the group that did not receive any chiropractic care, according to Harvard Health Publishing.
